Y Jesus?
One man’s life made such an impact on humanity, that calendars are dated from his birth. There has never been anyone like him. Ever. Here the Christian message is explained simply, using the letter Y, a symbol used by early Christians to represent the Trinity – God who is Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Y – he came
The Y symbol shows what made one man so special that time is dated from his birth. The Y has two points that become one. In the same way, God and man became one in the person of Jesus.

Some 2,000 years ago, Jesus fed hungry people. Made sick people well. Gave life to those who had died. Helped those abandoned by society. Forgave the sins of people wanting a new start. And rose to life again after his death

The downward movement of the Y also reminds us that Jesus came down from heaven to live among us.

Y – the cross
The Y also represents Jesus with his arms outstretched – hanging on a cross. Jesus said he had come to give his life as a ransom. His death was the payment needed for us to walk free from the penalty that sin brings.

The death of Jesus on the cross was so that we could be forgiven by God.

Jesus showed his love by willingly leaving the wonder of heaven to die for us.

On the cross, the perfect and sinless One gave his life as a sacrifice for our sins. There he made it possible for all of us to be clean and comfortable in God’s presence.

Y – the centre
What holds the Y together is the point at its centre where everything meets. Without it, the Y simply falls apart. In the same way, we are designed to have ‘a centre’ that holds us together.

At the very heart of who we are is a God-shaped ‘space’. We often try to fill it with everything other than God. But this is where he is meant to be and longs to be.

God invites us to make him the centre of our life – by telling him we are sorry for our sin, asking for his forgiveness, and inviting him to take charge.

(The Y drawn here is the ancient symbol used by Christians through the centuries as a picture of the Trinity).

Y – the choice
Look at the Y from the bottom up and you notice it is like a road travelling to a fork. At the divide there is a decision to be taken.

Jesus said, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life.’ He also spoke of ‘two roads’ – only one of which leads to everlasting life. That road to life begins by turning our back on all that we know to be wrong and trusting in Jesus for God’s forgiveness.

We must all choose. Either the road leading to emptiness and a future without God. Or God’s way – Jesus – to forgiveness and wholeness.

Y – the change
Now see the Y as a person with their arms reaching up – like a child to a father. This can be us, receiving God’s forgiveness and acceptance. And showing our gratitude for his love and the new life he gives us through Jesus.

Jesus transformed so many lives and relationships when he walked on this earth. Today, Jesus still changes the lives of all who will come to him.

Choosing forgiveness through Jesus gives us a future where we can know God’s love in our heart. And experience his friendship and help each moment of every day.
